A real story of a Brilliant Student
What its mean?
Today, we will try to understand this term with the help of an interesting story.
Do you love stories?
If yes, I have a very interesting story for you.
This is the story of a boy who lived in a village. He was brilliant from childhood. He used to look at everything very carefully, like trees, plants, vehicles, airplanes, animals, etc.
Whenever he used to see any new thing, a bombardment of questions used to happen in his mind. What is this? What does it do? Why does it fly? Why does this swim? How does it work? And many more kinds of.
He usually used to destroy his toys to see what was inside and used to try to join the components in a new way. He was very creative and innovative.
In a nutshell, I can say he had the mind of a scientist, a future scientist.
He used to score well in every exam. When he came into his high school, he had chosen the science-maths stream. He performed well in science and mathematics as per the expectation, but he was below average in the other than science-math subjects.
In the intermediate, he had chosen physics, chemistry, and mathematics. As I said, he was brilliant, he performed very nicely in PCM but remained below average in other subjects.
He appeared in the IIT-JEE entrance exam, but could not qualify because of a lack of coaching and very high competition.
He wanted to appear in the same exam next year, but his father didn’t want to let him waste his one year and wanted his son’s admission to a private engineering college. He agreed and took admission in a good college.
When he entered college, he visited many well-equipped laboratories. He thought that he was in the place of his dreams. Now he can do whatever he wants.
The next day, he got his academic syllabus and lecture schedule. He noticed that he had a schedule for each laboratory once a week. He was surprised and a little bit disappointed. But ultimately he had to follow the schedule.
But his mind seemed less in the lecture, the lectures used to make him boring. One of the reasons for this was that due to being from the UP board, he used to understand the lecture in the English language somewhat less.
He wanted to spend most of his time in the lab experimenting which he loved to do. But due to the fixed schedule, he was not able to do so.
He wanted to learn English communication, so he joined English speaking classes and tried to speak in the English public. But his friends used to make fun of him, and used to say,”oye angrej, zayada angreji na dikha” it means, “ Ohh Englishman, don’t show off your English.
Due to the lack of environment, he could not practice his English communication, and could not be fluent.
Now semester exams came, his performance was below average. He noticed that his percentage was mainly based on theory subjects, not the laboratory. He got demoralized. You can understand the reasons why.
In the next semester, he started focusing on the theory subjects, because his father pointed towards his low percentage many times.
After that, he forgot to pay attention to practical work in the laboratory and research. He used to spend his laboratory time doing formalities. Even many times he used to copy assignments of other subjects in the lab.
His focus had been shifted towards to gain marks only. He tried to find shortcut methods to gain marks. He came to know about question-answer books. He skipped reading textbooks.
He started to use those kinds of cheap quality study material. This kind of study material may help to gain marks but can’t provide knowledge.
Due to this pressure, he didn’t spare the time to learn new skills.
Time passed just like that, semester after semester. Finally, the last semester has arrived. In this semester, placement activities start, generally. He gave interviews in many companies but he was not shortlisted due to lack of communication skills.
One of the reasons for not being shortlisted could be that he studied only for Marks and not for his knowledge, as I have said earlier that he had stopped reading textbooks and started reading local cheap quality study material.
He filled the form for the GATE exam because his friends were doing so, but he did not qualify in this. The reason was the same that the basic concepts were not clear.
He also applied through online job consultancies, but never got a response.
Now he started asking for recommendations from his seniors working in private companies, some of them helped him. He appeared in the interview but not got shortlisted as he had nothing in the name of hands-on skills, which is the basic requirement of the industry. Basic concepts were also poor.
Some of his friends were doing preparation for various competitions. So they suggested that he also should join coaching for competition.
But he realized that his technical knowledge is so poor that he can not pick-up now for the technical competitions. So he decided to start preparing for Banking Jobs.
It was also new for him. But here he focused on only one thing this time. After spending two years of struggle, he finally scored good rank in a reputed Bank.
After all, he is working somewhere, his family is also happy.
It looks like a happy ending, but it is not. this is a sad ending. Actually a very bad ending. You may ask why?
This is because he doesn’t consider himself successful. Because he is in a place he doesn’t like. He wanted to be a scientist or technologist but he is doing a banking job. he had no career guidance
What you learned from this story. In my opinion, it is the biggest disaster in an individual’s life that he can not do whatever he loves to do. Some of us become unemployed and depressed.
Most of us are not in our desired place. Because we don’t get a proper guidance at the right time.
Then, what is the secret of success? How it can be achieved. The above story shows some fault of our education system. But if the system is not according to us, then what should be done.
I am going to share some strategic tips regarding career development. How to be successful. If you are interested, continue reading.
Set a Smart Goal
If you want to be successful, first of all, you need to decide what you want to do. Set a smart goal for your career growth.
I said ‘Smart’. It means that the goal should be achievable, specific, evaluated, time-bound, and re-adjusted. Click here to know more about Smart Goal.
Make a Plan
Setting up the goal is not sufficient, you will have to make a proper plan to achieve this goal. Career Growth mainly depends on an effective plan.
To make an executable plan, you can try the following strategy.
List of requirements and removable
Create a list of requirements to achieve your goal, like any skill, training or certificate, good habits, personality, etc. Also create a separate list for the things or bad habits which need to be eliminated, like sleeping and waking late, being lazy, delaying work, mobile addiction, etc.
Acquire the listed requirements one by one. Suppose if you need to improve your communication, just join the classes and finish it.
Similarly, eliminate the listed bad things or habits one by one parallelly.
Whenever these two lists will be completed, you will be at your destination.
Limit social media
In general, Whenever we need to know something, we take help from the internet. In most cases, we use mobile for this. While using mobile, we do not know when our fingers go on social media notifications. Once an app opens on social media, then you know how time is wasted. Scrolling, scrolling, and scrolling…. Nothin else.
That’s why social media should be used sparingly.
Yes, time management is a very essential key to Career Growth. Set your priorities and plan them. Make a plan for each day. Limit your multitasking activities. You can click here for more techniques for time management.
Improve basic concepts
As you saw in the story, the boy could not acquire good basic knowledge even after being brilliant.
I want to suggest to you, to go in the library and read the good and authentic textbooks. A deep conceptual knowledge is very essential for the Career Growth.
Read each concept in detail. Don’t read just to pass the exam. Read for knowledge. Apply this learning into practice.
Acquire the latest skills
After having good core knowledge, many of you face another problem. The problem is the requirement of hands-on skills by the industry if you want to be hired. In today’s scenario, most of the companies are demanding engineers who have good hands-on skills also. it is very essential for Career Growth.
Many years ago, the companies were recruiting by following the concept of a combination of good engineers and skilled workers. But now the scene is totally different. Now the concept is changed to Skilled Engineer.
That’s why, if you want to be successful, you must acquire some latest skills of your domain and you should try to learn at least one multidisciplinary skill. These skills should be listed on your list which you have prepared to achieve the goals.

Think about entrepreneurship
The biggest mistake of most of the youth is that they never think to be an entrepreneur.
If someone tries to start something, he feels very hard so he quit at the very beginning. Some students try to stand their startup after finishing their college but lose patience due to the pressure of earning bread-butter and start to hunt for a job.
So here I would like to suggest, please start to do something during your education. At this time you will not be feared of failure because you have plenty of time as well as chances. You will also not have the pressure of earning bread butter.
First of all, try to find a genuine problem around you that relates to your knowledge and skills. Do brainstorm and try to find the solution. After that prepare a revenue generation model or business model. Make a plan and start execution. Learn from your mistakes. Learn, learn, and learn… then earn. That’s it.

The entertainment sector is a very distracting subject matter. Nowadays, many means of entertainment are available, like TV, cinema, online games, mobile games, sports games shows and many more. they distract you from your Goal by disturbing your focus.
See, if you are concerned with any of them, you must be involved, but if you are only entertaining yourself too much, stop now. Spare time to learn. Don’t waste time. Time is very precious.
If you waste time, time will waste you. Simple.
